We pursue our mission through strategic directions relating to the United Nations three main pillars — peace and security, rights, and sustainable development — through two interrelated sets of strategies: education and awareness raising, and policy development and advocacy partnership.
We pursue our mission through our strategic direction, which relates to the United Nations' three main pillars — peace and security, rights, and sustainable development. We approach these directions through two interrelated sets of strategies.
These strategies are not isolated — they reinforce each other. Educating citizens builds the informed public needed for effective advocacy. Advocacy without education is hollow. Together, they drive lasting change.
Explore Our Three Pillars ↓Building civic literacy, voter education, and public understanding of rights, democracy, and development goals across Nigeria
Engaging governments, the UN, civil society, and communities to shape policies that protect people and promote sustainable development
Every programme CCDI implements is anchored in at least one of the United Nations' three foundational pillars. As a UN-ECOSOC Consultative member, our objectives are formally aligned with the global development agenda.
Mobilising citizens and political will to prevent atrocities and build a more peaceful, secure Nigeria and Africa.
Promoting, protecting, and educating on fundamental human rights from the local community to the United Nations system.
Educating, monitoring, and advocating for equitable, inclusive development aligned with the post-2015 global agenda.
Beyond strategy and objectives, CCDI delivers tangible programmes directly in Nigerian communities — building democracy from the grassroots up.
The Centre is one of the few civil society organisations registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to observe elections. CCDI has been observing elections since 2011. The Centre also conducts seminars in conjunction with Rights Monitoring Group on voters' education, electoral delineation, and civic education.
INEC-Registered ObserverSince 2011, the Centre has embarked on assessment of Millennium Development Goals across States. Adamawa, Anambra, and Delta are among the States assessed for their level of achievement — encouraging progress and holding governments accountable. Talks on nation building and sustainable development were organised for all stakeholders: students, religious bodies, women, children, and youths.
Multi-State MDG AssessmentsCCDI organises gender-sensitive programmes where issues like Gender Equality are addressed directly. We intervene to a logical conclusion on any issue concerning infringement on the rights of any Nigerian as reported to us. Through education and direct advocacy, CCDI promotes human rights standards at the national level and within the UN system.
Gender & Rights AdvocacyBeyond our three core pillars, CCDI pursues a wide range of interconnected objectives that reflect the complexity of sustainable development and democratic integrity.
Reverse the loss of forest cover through sustainable forest management, including protection, restoration, afforestation and reforestation, and increase efforts to prevent forest degradation.
Limit the most damaging impacts of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions wherever and whenever it may occur.
Provide a platform for dialogue and participation of people in promoting and strengthening the processes of democratisation, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
Promote youth and women's participation in political, legislative, social, economic, and cultural processes across Nigeria and the region.
Promote good governance and social accountability vis-à-vis sustainable development activities through integrated and multidimensional joint programmes.
Promote healthy lifestyles and health education that prevents diseases — building resilient, healthier communities across Nigeria.
